Responsibilities:
1. Artwork Handling and Installation: Coordinate and execute the installation, packing, unpacking, transportation, and handling of artworks within the various venues and external storage facilities of the Róng Museum of Art, in accordance with the highest international standards for art handling and preservation.
2. Exhibition Production: Ensure the safe handling of artworks and other exhibited objects, complete installation according to museum industry standards.
3. Exhibition Technology Management: Manage the full lifecycle of exhibition technology equipment (from installation to operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance), including multi-channel audio-visual systems, projection equipment, LED displays, media servers, lighting control systems, interactive sensors, and other related technologies.
4. Technical Production: Prepare and interpret construction drawings, technical specifications, and structural diagrams for exhibition equipment, temporary walls, and artwork mounts.
5. Safety and Compliance: adhere to museum safety, health, and environment (SHE) standards, operate forklifts, lifts, and other necessary workshop tools and equipment in accordance with established safety procedures.
6. Risk Assessment: Conduct risk assessments for installation, workshop operations, and storage operations, regularly review safety procedures.
7. Equipment Maintenance and Inventory Management: Ensure all technical and installation equipment is in good and usable condition, regularly conduct inventories of tool carts and packaging materials, and promptly report equipment problems and material needs.
8. Professional Development: Maintain communication with internal colleagues, external professionals, and industry organizations, keep abreast of latest developments in international museum best practices and art handling procedures.
9. Other Support: Complete other related tasks assigned by supervisors.
Requirements:
1. Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree or above. Majors in Art, Design, Engineering, or other related technical fields are preferred.
2. Previous Experience: At least 5 years of relevant work experience in museums or art shipping/handling companies. Candidates with less technical experience but exceptional overall capabilities may be considered for the position of Assistant Exhibition Technician.
3. Art Handling Skills: Strong proficiency in the installation of paintings and hands-on experience in handling and moving fragile items, sculptures, and two-dimensional artworks.
4. Art Logistics and Equipment Operation: Hands-on experience in packing and unpacking artworks and fragile items, with the ability to safely handle crates, pallets, and soft-packaged artworks using standard equipment such as manual pallet jacks, carts, and dollies. Candidates with experience in heavy hoisting, rigging, and lifting are preferred.
5. Technical Drawing and Software Skills: Proficiency in using Auto CAD, SketchUp, or similar design software to read and create technical drawings.
6. Production Skills: Candidates with knowledge of mount making, crate making, and general carpentry are preferred.
7. Safety Awareness: Familiarity with risk management and SHE standards as well as their implementation protocols. Candidates with a license in forklift or lift operation and/or a valid driver’s license are preferred.
8. Communication and Collaboration: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in conveying messages clearly and concisely, with skills in establishing and maintaining good professional relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
9. Problem Solving Skills: Outstanding analytical and conceptual thinking skills. Ability to logically analyze technical problems and proposing solutions that are both innovative and feasible.
10. Language Skills: Fluency in written and spoken Chinese and English.
